A bloke was left in excruciating pain after he nodded off with a toothpick in his gob - and accidentally gulped it down while he slept. ‌

The 29 year old rushed to A&E suffering severe stomach pain all day, but admitted he wasn't sure what was behind the agony. ‌

The pain was centred in his lower belly, and had got worse after he'd tucked into his evening meal, which included chicken. ‌

Medics were stumped until they sent him for a CT scan which revealed a tiny "structure" measuring 3.7cm.

They reckoned it was a bone from his dinner that he'd swallowed by mistake, reports the Mirror .

The doctors then ordered an emergency laparoscopy to probe further, and that's when they discovered the culprit: a wooden toothpick, which had punctured his bowel, as reported by NeedToKnow
