Under the advisement of President Donald Trump, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced on Wednesday that it is removing the 2021 temporary protected status for Venezuela, which will expire on Sept. 10.

Temporary protected status, commonly known as TPS, is a humanitarian immigration status in the U.S. that allows eligible foreign nationals to live and work in the country for a limited period if conditions in their home country make it unsafe to return. Former President Joe Biden enacted two designations of TPS for Venezuela back in 2021.

With approval from the U.S. Supreme Court, the Trump administration terminated one of the statuses earlier this year , and is now removing the second.
