Truman Copeland, a disabled veteran from Harrison, said Thursday that he is seeking the Republican nomination for House of Representatives District 5 -- a seat held by state Rep. Ron McNair, R-Alpena, who is not seeking re-election in 2026.
Copeland is the fourth Republican candidate to signal an intention to run for the party's nomination in House District 5, which includes a portion of Boone County.
In late June, McNair announced his decision to not seek re-election in 2026, after a few months of prayer, thoughts and conversations. He has served in the House of Representatives since 2015.
The three other announced candidates for the House District 5 seat are Republicans Kyle Evatt of Bellefonte, Mike Bishop of Harrison and Jeff Pratt of Harrison.
