AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) -- Thirteen local veterans were honored in Austintown on Thursday during Quaker Steak and Lube's annual Patriot Day ceremony.
For 18 years, Quaker Steak and Lube has hosted the event, celebrating the men and women who served the country.
Among the honorees were four World War II veterans and a U.S. Medal of Honor recipient.
"As a veteran, it's important for me to tell the stories of these brave men and women. There's nothing in the books, hardly at all, and they open up quite a bit when I interview them, and it's just nice to stand up and really see and hear what they went through," said organizer Ken Jakubec.
All veterans and active-duty military personnel at the event also received a 20% discount on their meals.
