LIHUE (HawaiiNewsNow) - More than $50 million in federal funding has been appropriated for airport updates on Kauai.

U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, helped secure the funds from the Department of Transportation for runway improvements at the Lihue Airport.

This money will go toward ongoing repair projects aimed at enhancing the airport’s runway safety area.

These upgrades are expected to improve takeoff and taxi operations.
