COAL CITY, WV (WVNS) - When John Lilly became the Independence Head Coach back in 2018, he knew things had to change.

The previous seven years saw five head coaching changes in the program, but Lilly knew the school had the potential to have a great program.

Since 2018, not only did the program grow, so did Lillys win count.

With last week's win against Herbert Hoover, Lilly officially broke the record books. He now holds the record for the most football wins in Raleigh County history.

"We just wanted to try and build from the bottom up and take kids from the youth leagues and middle school and bring them up and keep them together. I felt like that the talent that they had that we can have the opportunity to be successful," he said.
