Authorities are searching for a man they believe used a device to explode an ATM at a bank in Woburn Thursday morning.
Woburn police responded to the Eastern Bank on Mishawum Road just after 9 a.m. for a report that an ATM had been tampered with, Woburn Police Chief Brian McManus said in a press release . At the scene, officers discovered damage to the ATM consistent with a pipe bomb.
Woburn police then requested the help of the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad and FBI Boston’s special agent bomb technicians, McManus said.
Investigators discovered that, in the early morning hours of Sept. 4, a man had placed an object on the ATM and quickly left the area. Soon after, the device detonated and exploded, but no one was injured, McManus said.
