A mother and her son have been found not guilty of kidnapping their family's younger siblings as they walked to school.

It took less than a day for an ACT Supreme Court jury to acquit the pair, who are not named due to suppression orders, on Friday, September 5.

To return a guilty verdict to the kidnapping charges, jurors had to be satisfied that, in agreement, the duo took, led, or enticed away a person with intent to hold that person for any advantage to any person.

The advantage, prosecutor Paul Hogan said at the multi-day trial's outset, did not need to be financial.

Instead, for example, it could have been psychological gratification, having a person in your company or having a person contrary to court orders.
