A whistleblower has pledged to expose an 'asbestos scandal' at one of Scotland's largest housebuilders — after the firm was fined £10,000 for violating health and safety regulations concerning suspected asbestos at a site near Glasgow .

Martin McGowan was awarded £558,000 after he took legal action against Springfield Properties. The firm previously secured a silencing order against him over allegations that deadly dust had been buried beneath housing developments throughout Scotland.

The Groundworks sub-contractor claimed he and his crew were told to unknowingly demolish asbestos-filled buildings before using the hazardous material as backfill on new-build sites.
