A key Dumbarton road is to close for five weeks.

Essential gas main works will close a mile-long stretch of Glasgow Road from September 15.

The A814 Glasgow Road will close from the A82 Stirling Road to Greenhead Road. The closure, to allow for gas mains works by SGN, is expected to be in place until October 17.

The works are being carried out as part of the redevelopment of the former Exxon site at Bowling.

Local access to homes and businesses located in this area will be maintained throughout the period of closure, according to West Dunbartonshire Council. Three-way traffic lights will be in operation at both ends of the closure.

A section of Strowan’s Well Road will also be closed for the duration of the works. Signs are being put up to warn of the closures and diversions wil
