Patriot Day is a day of remembrance in the United States to commemorate the lives lost in the 9/11 terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The attacks killed 2,977 people. This was the single-largest loss of life resulting from a foreign attack on American soil. The attacks caused the deaths of 441 first responders, the greatest loss of emergency responders on a single day in American history.

The story does not end there. In the last 24 years, more than 800 first responders have died from a 9/11-related illnesses, and thousands more are sick or dying.
