Under a sunny sky, developers and churchgoers alike gathered last week to ceremonially break ground on a new residential project in Church Hill.

Called Olivet Gardens, the project will soon bring 10 townhomes to the area adjacent to the historic Mount Olivet Church. The project was approved by the Richmond Planning Commission in early 2024 and has now begun construction.

Tarvaris McCoy of Henrico-based the Real McCoy Cos. is one of the developers on the project. As an affordable housing developer and a longtime member of Mount Olivet Church, McCoy said his interest in the project is twofold.
