A Petersburg pastry shop is picking up where another left off in Carytown.
Faris Sanabani, owner of Petersburg’s Griffin Lounge cafe, has signed on to open Griffin Coffee and Bakery at 3027 W. Cary St.
The 2,200-square-foot space was previously Claudia’s Bake Shop , a Jewish bakery that closed earlier this year after about four years in business.
Sanabani, who also owns cigar shop Griffin Cigar in Stony Point Fashion Park, opened Griffin Lounge in January in a former Trailways bus station building at 108 E. Washington St. in Old Towne Petersburg. The lounge includes a cigar lounge, but has built a following on its specialty coffees and pastries, which is what Sanabani said will be the focus at the Carytown spot.
