A Philadelphia court of common pleas judge delivered a split decision to SEPTA riders Thursday, reversing service cuts while allowing a fare increase to proceed.
Judge Sierra Street Thomas ruled that the 21% fare increase that took effect on Sept. 1 could proceed, but ordered immediate restorations of bus, subway and trolley service cuts that started on Aug. 24, WHYY reported .
The judge’s decision blocked 20% cuts in regional rail service in her decision which were set to start on Sept. 2. Those reductions would have affected two lines that serve New Jersey, the Trenton and West Trenton lines.
SEPTA halted implementation of the rail service cuts after the judge issued a temporary injunction on Aug. 29 barring the fare hike and rail cuts.
The agency will have to resume operation
