NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A new law requires public schools to teach about gun safety.

It passed last year but took effect during this school year. Under the law, children as young as kindergarten will learn about firearms.

“We just wanna make sure we get this right, and there’s questions that we have that we have sent to the state. We are awaiting replies to those,” Wilson County Schools Public Information Officer Bart Baker said.

The Tennessee Department of Education has partnered with multiple agencies to come up with a curriculum.

Students’ grade level will determine how in-dept the lesson will be.
