LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ) - In 2018, historic flooding in Lynchburg washed out bridges and trails across the city.

Now, a popular stretch of Creekside Trail is finally reopening.

The Creekside Trail did not stand a chance when floodwaters rose around eight feet above the ground.

“We got a whole lot of rain all at once,” said Howard Covey, Park Service’s Director for the City of Lynchburg. “Everything on that side of the creek and this side were pretty much under water.”

Covey remembers the raging water that washed out four bridges, ripped apart trails, and cut off access to one of Lynchburg’s most popular green spaces.

“Anything along the bank here was destroyed. And we had damage all the way back at the beginning from Hollins Mill and it exceeds all the way out to the dog park,” said Cov
