LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Amy Wren, Angelina County’s new District Attorney is looking to make some changes in the office, starting with tackling a backlog of more than 5,000 cases, some of which date back to the early 2,000’s.
“Cases don’t get better with time; generally they get worse,” Wren said. “So, we’re going to have to look at that and triage the cases where they’re at and only move forward with ones we can actually prosecute.”
Wren said it’s a big difference in her new position.
“It’s not just me prosecuting cases, now I have to oversee other people who are prosecuting cases,” Wren said.
And she plans to focus on the prosecutors working with her.
“With our attorneys being younger, I absolutely have a goal to make sure they are getting better,” Wren said.
