'It is very alarming:' High levels of nitrite found in Williams Bay water leaving thousands scrambling
WILLIAMS BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The "Do Not Drink" order in Williams Bay has been lifted as of Friday, Sept. 5.
The advisory was issued on Aug. 27 after two children developed cases of blue baby syndrome.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources found high levels of nitrites in the water, deeming it unsafe, and the public was advised not to drink the tap water or use it for things like cooking or brushing teeth.
After several days of testing and mitigation efforts, the DNR confirms water quality has returned to safe levels.
Water samples for nitrite testing were collected at nine locations throughout the village and submitted to a lab Thursday. On Friday morning
