ST. LOUIS — Demolition has started at St. Louis' oldest public housing complex in preparation for new construction.
Crews this week began dismantling six buildings at Clinton-Peabody Apartments, a 24-acre site at South 14th Street and Chouteau Avenue near downtown. Construction of 89 new housing units is slated to start early next year, according to a release.
“This is a huge next step on the road to fully realizing a new vision for Clinton-Peabody Apartments,” said Aaron Gornstein, CEO of Preservation of Affordable Housing, the company leading the revamp. “With demolition under way, we can now look ahead to constructing new buildings and homes in 2026.”
