The Calgary Police Service (CPS) has received approval from the provincial government for photo radar to come back in some parts of the city after concerns were raised by local law enforcement.

As of Friday, Oct. 3, 2025, Intersection Safety Devices (ISD) for red-light and speed enforcement will return to the following intersections:

Eastbound and westbound 16th Avenue at 68th Street NE

East and westbound Highway 1A at 12th Mile Coulee Road NW

There were 37 collisions at 16th Avenue and 68th Street last year, and the highest recorded speeds were between 111 km/h and 192 km/h in the 70 km/h zone

Highway 1A and 12th Mile Coulee Road NW saw 20 collisions in 2024, and the highest recorded speeds were between 121 km/h and 162 km/h in the 90 km/h zone.
