ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is providing an update on the investigation into the deadly Erie Canal U-Haul crash.

Deputies said that 56-year-old Reginald Russell and Ryan Armstrong stole merchandise from a Walgreens in Brockport before driving away in a U-Haul box truck. The two were allegedly seen loading the merchandise into the truck before driving on Lake Road.

Police said they found the truck and tried to stop it, but it ended up speeding off. The truck ended up in Orleans County, where it drove into the Erie Canal.
