The neurosurgeon overseeing the care of Annunciation shooting victim Sophia Forchas said there is a "ray of hope" that she will survive the gunshot wound to her head.
Appearing at a press conference alongside the 12-year-old's father, Tom Forchas, on Friday afternoon, Hennepin County Medical Center neurosurgeon Dr. Walt Galicich said that he is now "a little bit more optimistic that she is going to survive," though cautioned there remains a long way to go in her recovery.
Sophia remains in a critical condition in the ICU at the downtown Minneapolis hospital, with Dr. Galicich saying that a bullet fired by shooter Robin Westman at Annunciation Church on Aug. 27 remains lodged in the right occipital lobe of her brain, having entered her skull at the left temporal lobe.
