A 40-year-old St. Catharines resident has been charged after a car collided with a utility pole Thursday, knocking it off its foundation.
Just before 5 p.m., Niagara Regional Police were called to the area of Lake Street and Pinedale Avenue, south of the QEW.
Police said a black Hyundai Elantra was headed north on Lake Street at a high speed when it struck the pole. The impact dislodged the pole from the foundation.
There were no injuries.
A section of Lake Street was closed for nearly 12 hours while crews repaired the pole, police said. The road was reopened at 4:45 a.m. Friday.
The driver was charged with careless driving and driving while under suspension.
