Stratas of seniors living along South Main Street feel like the Lake-to-Lake Cycling Route has reduced safety and increased stress, so they’re campaigning to improve it.
Denise Bateman, who lives at Caravilla Estates, is a member of her strata’s council. She says the new layout of the road can make it challenging for drivers to navigate safely – new concrete barriers require some drivers to make turns so wide that they cross the centre line; bike lane users don’t always obey the one-way traffic; and visibility is often hindered by street parking.
“Add to that -- senior drivers -- and that doesn’t help the situation either,” she said.
Bateman said her strata recently ponied up $3,600 to improve the curb near their entrance, yet it still gets struck by large vehicles.
