REYNOLDSVILLE, Pa. (WTAJ) — Two Jefferson County ambulance services are combining staff in an effort to continue serving the area.

The Reynoldsville Ambulance Service and Sykesville Ambulance Service have co-existed for about 50 years. Now, according to Reynoldsville Ambulance Service President Daniel Stitt, they are combining staff to combat some of the issues facing the industry.

"The biggest things that we're seeing for obstacles is personnel issues, lack of volunteerism throughout the whole state and also the reimbursement issues," Stitt said.

After witnessing the decline in volunteers, both parties began talks of a partnership about a year ago.

"It's a swim or sink situation," Sykesville Ambulance Service President Eric Mehok said.
