YORK COUNTY, Va. — A registered sex offender is behind bars in York County.

The York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office said it got a call from a local children's hospital on Thursday, alerting deputies to a young girl who had been sexually assaulted. Investigators met with the victim at the hospital and learned she had been assaulted over an extended period of time by a man she knew.

Following an investigation, deputies arrested 47-year-old Billy Ray Brown in Yorktown. He faces felony charges of indecent liberties with a child and forcible sodomy.

Additional charges are pending.
