A home in Gentilly was destroyed in a fire that also damaged several nearby houses and vehicles, according to the New Orleans Fire Department.

NOFD said crews were dispatched around 7:59 p.m. to the 2500 block of Madrid Street. The first engine arrived minutes later to find a home in the 6000 block of Painters Street engulfed in flames, with fire spreading to neighboring houses. Advertisement

Firefighters struck a second alarm at 8:08 p.m. as crews worked to contain the fire and protect surrounding homes. Seventeen units and 46 personnel responded.

The house was destroyed. The home next door sustained extensive damage, and at least two vehicles were destroyed. Nearby homes had moderate exterior damage.
