FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - A balloon release was held in Fort Wayne Saturday, honoring April Tinsley after her killer, John D. Miller, died earlier this week.

Organized by Tinsley’s family, the memorial was held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at April’s Garden, located near the intersection of Hoagland and Masterson Avenues.

In addition to the balloon release, the public event provided the community time to come together, remember April, and show support for her family as her legacy continues.

April’s mother, Janet Tinsley, says Saturday’s memorial is a time of celebration.

“It makes you feel good that she’s still in everybody’s mind and everybody’s heart," said Janet Tinsley.

April Tinsley disappeared on April 1, 1988, from the 2300 block of Hoagland Avenue.
