Adelaide and parts of regional South Australia are bracing for a morning of wild weather, with the Bureau of Meteorology issuing a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for damaging winds across a wide area of the state.

The warning, released at 2:24am Sunday 7 September, applies to the Adelaide metropolitan area, Flinders, Mid North, and parts of the Mount Lofty Ranges, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Riverland, Murraylands, North West Pastoral, and North East Pastoral districts.

Strong northerly winds ahead of a cold front have triggered gusty thunderstorms in the west overnight, and severe storms are now sweeping across central parts of the state.
