Town Commissioners working to create job description

At their Sept. 3 meeting, the Manteo Commissioners discussed the search to replace Town Manager and Planner Melissa Dickerson—with a focus on crafting a job description.

Dickerson, who was appointed Town Manager in 2022, resigned on Aug. 6 without explanation and the Manteo Commissioners appointed Kevin Brinkley as Interim Manager. Brinkley, a former Nags Head Police Chief, resigned as a Nags Head Commissioner in 2024 after moving to Manteo.

Dickerson’s resignation also came on the heels of former Manteo Mayor Sherry Wickstrom’s decision in late July to step down from that job for personal reasons.
