Charlotte Sterling stood on the front porch of the home without knowing what to say to the woman who killed her son.

Thoughts that had been haunting Sterling for months raced through her mind as she waited for the door to open. She wanted to know exactly what happened that evening, Nov. 4, 2024, when the woman’s vehicle struck Sterling’s 16-year-old son, Mitchell, as he rode his e-bike near his home.

Sterling wanted to know if the woman showed remorse on her face. Or if she read the letter Sterling wrote her on Mother’s Day of this year.

“Only you know if your eyes were not on the road and you suddenly looked up BUT IT WAS TOO LATE,” the letter states. “Only you know what truly happened.”
