DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ) — History was made in Danville this weekend as the city hosted its first-ever Boston Marathon qualifying race, the Three Sisters Marathon .

Thousands of runners hit the streets Saturday morning, making the event a milestone for both athletes and the community.

Jonathan Craun of Wilmington, North Carolina, won the men’s race in his marathon debut. “It feels fantastic,” Craun said. “This is my first marathon ever, so to come out here and win my first time is a really great accomplishment. My goal today was about two hours and forty minutes, and I ran two hours and thirty-two minutes, so I definitely crushed my goal.”

On the women’s side, Natalie Daniels of Fredericksburg, Virginia earned the top spot. She said the race highlighted Danville’s growth and strong commun
