EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. — An Edwardsville mother trying to make her daughter's dream come true turned to her community in desperation after she says her insurance company denied her three times. The outpouring of support was more than she expected.
Wanda Chancellor, a mother of three children, said her family's life changed forever when she put her youngest daughter, 3-year-old Rhea, down for a nap on Nov. 26, 2022.
"She took a nap for about 10 minutes, woke up paralyzed from the neck down. No rhyme, no reason, no explanation," Chancellor said.
Eventually, Rhea was diagnosed with Acute Flaccid Myelitis, Transverse Myelitis, and Chiari malformation.
"There is still no reason as to what caused the paralysis," Chancellor said about her daughter.
