Two groups of rival protesters came face-to-face in a tense clash at Sydney's famous Bondi Beach today.

Pro-Palestine and Pro-Israel protest groups both arrived at the beachfront in Sydney's eastern suburb earlier this morning, triggering a heavy police presence.

9News vision shows hundreds of people on the steps of the beach wielding Israeli flags watching on as pro-Palestine protesters stood on the sand.

Hundreds of people had arrived on the sand to take part in a paddle-out in support of Gaza.

It is understood police had to intervene as the protest double-up became tense.

Footage from the event showed punches being thrown during a small fracas between opposing group members.
