As the City of Yuma attempts to update its building codes, Councilmember Leslie McClendon is leading the charge to require that all new multi-story buildings, no matter their size, provide equal access to all residents, including those with disabilities.
The city and its partners recently completed a year-long effort to review the latest versions of the International Building Code, International Residential Code, International Existing Building Code and International Property Maintenance Code.
After previously adhering to the 2018 versions of these documents, four ordinances were written to update the Yuma City Code based on the 2024 versions, with additional recommendations from the Building and Residential Advisory Boards.
The council introduced the three ordinances pertaining to the
