A main North Staffordshire road is shut this morning following a crash.

The collision has occurred on the A53 at Longsdon, near Endon, with drivers urged to avoid the area. Police have shut off the road and traffic is being diverted down Dunwood Lane.

Staffordshire Moorlands Police have said: "Officers are currently dealing with a road traffic collision on the A53 Leek Road at Longsdon between Honeysuckle Lane and Dunwood Lane.

"We are asking for drivers to avoid the area as emergency services deal with the situation."

'Serious accident'

Traffic monitoring system Inrix states: "A53 in both directions closed, queueing traffic due to serious accident from Dunwood Lane (Denford) to Micklea Lane (Longsdon)."
