When considering where to live or travel, one of the most important questions to ask is how safe a country is. Safety affects everything from quality of life to economic stability – and while no place in the world is perfect, some countries consistently rank among the safest destinations. Iceland is one example; since 2008, it has been named the most peaceful country in the world.

According to the 2025 Global Peace Index (GPI) , produced by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), Iceland actually improved its overall peacefulness by two percentage marks this year.
