HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) - State officials kicked off National Recovery Month in the Keystone State on Saturday.

It's an annual recognition observed in September to highlight the gains made in the lives of folks living in recovery, the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) said.

“September is a time to celebrate that people can and do recover from the disease of addiction,” said DDAP Secretary Dr. Latika Davis-Jones. “At the crux of our efforts is the loud-and-clear message that no one is alone on their personal journey to recovery and wellness.”

State officials were at an event in the Midstate on Saturday, Recovery Out Loud, which they say is centered on the importance of wellness in recovery journeys and the power in sharing personal recovery stories.
