The North Scottsdale United Methodist Church will hold a pet blessing and St. Francis of Assisi Celebration starting at 8 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5.

According to a press release, families are welcome to bring beloved animals of all kinds, including cats, dogs, rabbits and more - for a brief blessing between 8 and 9 a.m. Each pet receives an individual prayer of blessing, a special prayer card and a blessed collar tag.

At 10 a.m., NSUMC will hold a special worship service to honor St. Francis of Assisi and reflect on the bond between people and animals. At this time, children will work on creating chew toys using recycled and pet-safe materials for local pet shelters.

The event is free and open to the public.
