Police are appealing for information after a shopkeeper was seriously injured in a terrifying attack in Coalburn, Lanark . ‌

The 53-year-old man was putting rubbish in bins beside his convenience store on Coalburn Road at around 8.50am on Sunday, 7 September, when he was approached and slashed with a bladed weapon. ‌

The attacker then ran off towards Dunns Crescent. ‌

The victim was rushed to Wishaw General Hospital , where he remains in a stable condition.

Detective Constable Alison Geal, of Lanarkshire CID, said the attack appeared to be unprovoked but the shopkeeper was targeted.

“From our enquiries so far, we believe this attack to be totally unprovoked but that the person who was attacked was the target of the suspect,” she said. ‌
