NORMAN — Brent Venables was embarrassed. Not for the reasons of the past, though.

After Oklahoma beat Michigan 24-13 in a marquee battle of bluebloods Saturday night, Venables’ players danced in a circle around him.

Then, defensive tackle David Stone picked his head coach up and hoisted him into the air. Venables was smiling, yet signaling repeatedly to be put down.

“I don’t think Coach V liked that very much, but it was cool to see that,” said tight end Jaren Kanak. “Obviously it’s an incredible win for him, incredible win for the program and for the fans.”

And so, sheepish as he might have been, Venables didn’t apologize for his team’s partying.

“They need to celebrate,” Venables said.
