DUBUQUE, Iowa — A fire broke out on the back deck of a home early Sunday, prompting a swift response from the Dubuque Fire Department.

According to the Dubuque Emergency Communications Center, a neighbor called 911 at 6:09 a.m. to report a blaze in the 1600 block of N. Algona Street. Within 30 seconds, the Dubuque Fire Department dispatched multiple units, including Battalion 1, Truck 4, Medic 4, and several engines, bringing 14 firefighters to the scene.

Truck 4 and Medic 4 arrived within three minutes, quickly extinguishing the fire in just four minutes.

While the home itself was spared from fire and smoke damage, the back deck suffered extensive damage and is considered a total loss. Some siding on the home melted, with total damages estimated at $6,500.
