PAWTUCKET — One clinical goal was enough to put away Rhode Island FC .
The home side held Louisville City FC to one shot on goal, but Aiden McFadden’s strike to the upper 90 from the right wing was enough to lift the visitors. The top team in the Eastern Conference, and perennial contenders in the USL Championship, walked away with a 1-0 triumph.
Louisville (16W-1L-6T) is the class of the league and it showed on Saturday night at Centreville Bank Stadium. When the visitors struck early, they limited Rhode Island (6W-11L-6T) and were content to play with the slight lead. Rhode Island again defended well in its losing effort but still wasn't dangerous enough in the attacking third.
“I think they are definitely building and gathering momentum,” RIFC coach Khano Smith said of his players.
