Zen Lounge downtown has been shut down in the wake of a recent late-night shooting in which police said more than 80 rounds were fired from assault rifles and handguns outside the basement nightclub.
Core Urban, which owns the building at 69 John St. S. that houses the club, posted a letter there Friday announcing that “Zen is now closed,” adding: “A downtown in fear is not the Hamilton we know or we want to foster … Zen is not building our community up, it is bringing it down.”
In an interview with The Spectator, Core Urban owner Steve Kulakowsky said the shooting, just before 1 a.m. on Aug. 30, was “beyond shocking.”
That night, three men ranging in age from late teens to early 20s, came under fire after exiting the nightclub. All three were wounded but survived.
