EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Pittsburgh Steelers safety DeShon Elliott suffered a knee injury against the New York Jets .

The injury occurred on a run to the outside when Elliott was outside the pile of players. As he started to make the tackle, his left knee bent awkwardly. He stayed down before limping off the field and having his helmet taken.

The Steelers have listed Elliott as doubtful to return. if he can not return, veteran safety Chuck Clark will be the next man up, while Jalen Ramsey could also shift inside to play more safety.

Elliott earned a two-year extension this offseason after an excellent first season with the team to keep him under contract through 2027.
