CLEVELAND, Ohio — It’s safe to say we had an idea of who the Browns wanted to be this season. They showed us early on Sunday when they took over on their first possession following a 12-play, 68-yard touchdown drive by the Bengals to open the scoring.
The Browns, aided by three penalties in the Bengals’ secondary and a roughing the passer against Trey Hendrickson, put together a 16-play, 67-yard touchdown drive that ate up 9:50.
It worked for a while until it didn’t and the Browns lost, 17-16, to start their season 0-1.
Three of the Browns’ first four drives ended in points, including an 11-play field goal drive that devoured most of the last 4:18 of the first half, and a touchdown drive to start the second half that lasted 13 plays, covered 84 yards and 7:40.
