QUINCY (WGEM) - Physicians are used to battling illness and disease, but providers from Quincy Medical Group (QMG) are facing a different challenge today: stigma.

The fifth annual Man Up Men’s Health Event took place on Saturday in Quincy’s South Park.

Specialists provided attendees with free health screenings including EKGs, blood pressure checks and lab tests for a number of conditions including prostate cancer, diabetes and high cholesterol. Several local businesses also offered resources and supplements to visitors.

Dr. Imran Shaikh, a group physician with QMG, explained the event’s primary aim is to encourage men to take ownership of their health.

Some care providers speculate the hesitancy to seek treatment may stem from financial uncertainty or a fear of burdening others.
