CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Iowa’s casinos saw a 4.9% jump in revenue in August as construction on a new casino in Cedar Rapids ramps up.

Overall gaming revenue in Iowa hit $151.2 million in August , up from $144.1 million in August 2024. The increase aligns with a 2.7% increase in visitors to the state’s casinos. All told, Iowa’s casinos added more than $30 million to state and local taxes as well as endowment funds from that revenue.

Separately, sports wagering saw a 40% increase in revenue in August, topping $22 million in receipts . Iowans wagered $181 million on sports in August, an 8.7% increase. The vast majority of wagers were placed in online sportsbooks. That added $1.48 million to state tax revenue
