The cause of a house fire that saw a man and child rushed to hospital has been revealed.

Emergency services were called to Dunsford Road, Smethwick , just after 7.30am on Sunday, September 7.

Firefighters led four people were led to safety, with investigators later deeming the blaze to be accidental, caused by a lithium-ion battery.

Medics treated a seriously injured man at the scene before taking him to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital .

A child was also treated for potentially serious injuries before being taken to the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital.
