INDIANAPOLIS — Nine out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital die, according to the American Heart Association .
In most of these cases, bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) wasn't performed.
The American Heart Association is working to change that.
The 34th annual American Heart Association Heart Walk will be held Saturday, Sept. 20 at Victory Field in downtown Indianapolis .
The walk educates people on CPR, raises money for people to be trained in CPR and celebrates survivors of heart disease and stroke.
Gates open at 8 a.m., with the opening ceremony at 9:45 a.m. and the walk starting at 10 a.m.
Registration for the walk, either by yourself or with a team, is open. You can register online here . Walkers can choose between a 1-mile or a 3-mile route.
